Wondering

If anyone can direct me to these books for the book project. I don’t remember the titles of either, not much about them.

The first, I feel like it was a Judy Blume, but I’m not sure. All I remember is that a girl (or even possible a boy) got a cat. There was a girl in the child’s class who also got a cat, and who said “my cat is half persian, half something, half something else, and half another thing” and the protagonist responded “doesn’t that mean you have 2 cats?”. If I remember correctly, standing up to this girl was a big deal. The only other thing I remember is that the father varnished some wooden floors in their house for a photo shoot, and the cat walked all over the floors, and the dad was mad.

In the second one, I remember even less. A girl got sick, and was going blind (maybe) and her friend/sister thought it was her fault because she fell out of a tree they climbed. But she actually had a brain tumor. It’s possible this is a New Zealand book, because I vaguely remember it mentioning Huka Falls, but I could be confusing 2 books.

Can anyone help? Aside from wanting to figure them out, it is also beginning to drive me crazy. And yes, I have a weird memory. Can remember details from books I read 20 years ago, can’t remember where I left my keys.

Book Club

Via Deborah, I found this list of books people keep on their bookshelves, but have never read -the assumption being it’s to make themselves look smart (I think it’s more likely they thought they should read them, and then could never bring themselves to). Aside from questioning how a Dan Brown book could make anyone smart, it’s quite a nifty idea.

So, Bold means I’ve read it, Italics is started it, but didn’t finish. And there’s a few comments in there too.
