Wedding Crafting

November 16, 2009 · 2 Comments

So i mentioned a couple of days that I did some sewing for Gillian and Thom’s wedding. I sewed wraps for Clare and I, which was really just pinning and hemming and quite a lot of ironing. I also made a flower which went on the cake knife, and clutches for Clare and I.

The clutches weren’t particularly expert, because I’m not, but I thought I’d show you them anyway.

They’re made out of the chocolate charmeuse satin of the dress, the organza of the wrap, and the champagne colour of the bangles we wore that the lovely Emily made. This is how I explained it to Gilly:

I used this pattern (PDF), but without the faffing about with embroidery, and with more flexible interfacing – I would actually have liked a stiffer interfacing, but had to work with what I could get.

The flower I got from here, and the one on my bag is slightly bigger. The one on the cake knife is bigger again.

They weren’t perfect, they didn’t feel quite strong enough, but they did look quite cute.

Have machine, will sew.

Since Santa brought me a sewing machine for Christmas, I have sewed up something of a storm.  Ten patchwork balls. (Heh, Balls).  2 Japanese Knot Bags.  And a knitting bag!  Woot!!

Don’t look at the quality of the sewing.  I am still learning.

And because I a still learning, I have been trawling the internet to find things I can make.

And there is a whole lot. SeriouslyA Lot.

I heart the interweb so very much.

So crafty friends?  What should I make to help me learn to sew?

Christmas Craft

December 22, 2008 · 1 Comment

I made a number of Christmas presents this year.  Some little and some big.  Lots of people got handbags, tomato relish, and vanilla and brown sugar body scrub.

And one very good friend got a handmade (sort of) book.  Filled with tasks for her to do in 2008.  The idea for which was shamelessly stolen from here. I did come up with my own tasks and decorations.  And I’m not making her write a blog about it.

Don’t your friends were crafty like me?  (You don’t.  It makes them too stressed to actually enjoy the process.)
