Cupcakes to whoever guesses first where these rather cute shoes come from. And why my head just exploded.

Whether selling a kidney would fetch enough to allow me to buy these in pink?

New Shoes!

September 3, 2009 · 3 Comments

I remember the first pair of shoes I really loved.  They were black leather Mary Janes with a silver button.  They had a chunky, about 1 1/2 inch heel, and were incredibly comfortable.  I bought them from Moda Bella in Merivale Mall, in preparation for my first job as a waitress. I lost those shoes when I lent them to a flatmate for a ‘back to school’ pub crawl, and never got them back.  I still miss them. They went perfectly with my mid-nineties uniform of jeans, a linen shirt and a scarf knotted around my throat.  (Shut up) I’m pretty sure I wore no shoes other than them, and my navy blue docs.

Incidentally, I am currently watching lots of old Buffy episodes, thanks to Jo, and it astounds me how shoes more than everything else have changed.  I mean, there are some outfits, that I remember loving in like, 1998, that I cringe looking at now.  But there’s also a powder blue coat that I covet, and some VERY cute dresses.

But the shoes are all so chunky and heavy, and with the exception of Willow’s Chucks, they are so not things we would wear now.

Anyway, Buffy digression aside, I’ve always had a thing for Mary Janes.  And what with my deperate need for some black shoes, and shoes I could wear to work, you can see why I HAD to buy these.

Cute, right? And taking the photo inspired me to show off some of my other shoes.  Cos….well, we talk about shoes a lot here. These are not all my shoes . To show you everything would take days, and would make my head explode, because I’d have to count them.

I bought these blue ones, from #1 actually, I think, for the races a couple of years ago.  They are surprisingly comfortable, but pretty much worn out now, I think.

Also worn out, but because I wore them constantly these adorable red flats.  (I have about 4 pairs of shoes I need to throw out, and just can’t bring myself to.)

Not particularly comfortable, but hellishly cute.  David Elman navy spotty peep toes.

Also not comfortable? The shoes that have the distinction of being the most uncomfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever owned.  And that is saying something. Bought for a party from Wild Pair (I think) and worn, maybe 3 times.

Shoes that also rock (even though I haven’t been on them for weeks):

And my most favourist pair of beautiful impractical, ridiculous high heels that I can’t really wear because they are just too high. But actually, I am going to try to break them out on the weekend.

You may remember them.

So pretty, so flighty and silly.  (And kind of fecked from 2 weddings, one that had wet grass, and one that had a deck the heels kept slipping through)

But really, which would you rather wear?

Friday Frock: Want (more)

If a girl had, like, a thousand weddings to attend in 2009, and was thinking she is sick of thinking about what she is going to wear now that she owns the perfect shoes (yeah, I know.  I own tooo many shoes) she couldn’t go too far wrong with this one, could she?

And, I’m pretty sure I could manage to look like I’d put some effort into doing my hair and makeup.  I’m not sure, but I think I might love her shoes, too.

I blame Harry Potter

September 12, 2008 · 4 Comments

Do you ever have those days, when you do something so irrevocably stupid, you want to bash yourself over the head repeatedly?

Yesterday, I bought two pairs of shoes.  In a buy one get one half price kind of special.  They were cute.  One was for work, one was for play.  And sometimes for work.  They were more than $100.  I liked them.

And then, when I was waiting for my bus, and reading stupid Harry Potter – which I have gotten into since I borrowed one from the hotel library – and left the bag containing them sitting at the bus stop.

If I wasn’t so annoyed at myself, I’d cry.   I’ve phoned the bus company, the police station, the bank next to the bus stop, I’ve even gone into the shop I bought them from.  No luck.

So, if you happen to see anyone wearing a pair of shoes that doesn’t look like they belong to them, let me know, will you?  I’ll be the one wearing ugly shoes.

[UPDATE: A lovely lady handed them back into the store from which I brought them, so the shoes are returned to their rightful place - my wardrobe.  Hooray - faith in the world restored!]
