Rings are the New Black

July 29, 2008 · 4 Comments

Yesterday, in an effort to find a present for a friend, I found myself at Redcurrent. I should not be allowed to got to Redcurrent. There are too many things I want to buy with money I do not have. Beautiful evening clutches, gorgeous smelling things, pretty beads, amazing linens. I am jealous of the people who work there.

Anyway, I brought a present, and because starting work at 4am does not bring out my best side (ie, willpower and cheerfulness), i also bought myself a present.

This pretty ring:

The good news is, it breaks my new habit of buying earrings. The bad news is, how many pieces of pretty, but cheap, jewellery does one girl need?

Any and all comments on the loveliness of my fingernails (They have been long – by which I mean not picked and broken to the quick – for 8 months, and I am still ridiculously proud) and ignoring the age spots (oh my god) on my hands much appreciated.

Red is the New Black

July 21, 2008 · 7 Comments

I have an infatuation with red shoes. My favourite flats? Red. The shoes I bought for my 30th birthday party and faux-wedding? Red. My beautiful boots, possibly my favourite footwear ever? Red.

Which is why, when I saw these, I automatically wondered who I’d have to hurt to get a pair.

Also, I liked the Sunday magazine’s Shoe of the Week this week.  What is wrong with the world?

Knitting is (not) the new black; Or: Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should

May 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In the window of Kate Sylvester, there is a knitted dress. It is a really pretty pale green colour (I can’t find a picture online), but even so. It is a knitted dress. When I first saw it, I texted Caroline to say “There’s a knitted dress in the window of Kate Sylvester, does that mean I can make one?” She replied “No, because you aren’t Kate Sylvester, nor do you want to be her. Although it would be very funny, so maybe you should”.

Part of me loves this dress, and thinks it is pretty. The other part of me thinks it is absolutely ridiculous. What worries me is that I am sitting, typing, wearing a pair of fingerless gloves I knitted for myself, that even 6 months ago, I would have thought were ridiculous.

So maybe I should knit the dress, cos it would be funny. Except? Just No.

Hats are the new black

May 13, 2008 · 5 Comments

Or, that’s my prediction, after this:

I love the hat, some hate it. I think it works perfectly with the dress, and I covet all of it. So there.

(Also, this is going to be a feature – “The new Black” – things I want/covet/love, etc)
